Free Pattern Tuesday!

I know. I should do these on Friday. But Friday is supposed to be Finished Object Friday (not that I have been able to post on a Friday yet), so we will just have to figure out a better title together.

Also, I want to take a moment to apologize for my absence. My trip to Asheville really set me behind on my schedule! The hubby and I had a blast though, so totally worth it. Now. On to the good stuff.

Free knitting pattern!!!! Spring time seems to equal baby time, so here is a quick pattern for a color block baby blanket. I emphasize quick. In case you are down to a few days before a gift is required. I’ve been there. This is seriously quick, but feel free to scale down if you need it done even faster.

Materials:

  • 3 skeins in coordinating colors Caron Simply Soft 100% acrylic (250 yards/141.7g) Yarn weight 4 – Medium
  • U.S. size 11 (8mm) circular needles (for width)
  • Row counter (optional)

Gauge:

12 stitches and 22 rows = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch

Blanket:

Using first color, cast on 80 stitches, doubling the yarn (pulling from both ends of skein)

Knit every row, slipping first stitch purlwise. After knitting 40 rows, switch colors. Continue until all 3 colors have been used. The cast off.

Finishing:

Weave in ends. Final dimensions 25″ square.

There you have it. A quick baby blanket that is the perfect size for a car seat or stroller. Caron Simply Soft is machine washable and dryable (one of the reasons I absolutely love it), plus you can find more color variety than you can with most baby yarns. It holds up extremely well and has been kid tested. Happy knitting!
